The goals are: To stimulate interest in natural sciences and engineering. To provide career related work experience for the award recipient and/or student. To provide students with financial support. These awards support UBC's strategic plan and will give UBC the opportunity to actively engage undergraduate students in research. NSERC encourages a participation rate of 5.

To encourage aboriginal students to pursue graduate studies and research careers in the natural sciences and engineering, awards that are made out to aboriginal students are in addition to UBC's quota of awards. Please refer to the UBC specific information regarding other award opportunities.
